27th July 2020

Going under the hammer on the 21st October 2020 are these two fine and rare vintage Rolex wristwatches.

The Rolex Submariner 5512 with the ‘Explorer 3-6-9' dial is regarded as the ‘Holy Grail’ of vintage watches and was only produced for a very short period in the very early 1960s. Very few known examples exist with this ‘Crown 62’ dial variation, and amazingly one of those featured here at Gardiner Houlgate back in May 2016 selling for £192,000.

This watch also dates from 1962 and most importantly the dial is in a wonderfully preserved condition, originally purchased from Watches of Switzerland in 1964 to commemorate the original owners 40th birthday it retains the original boxes, guarantee/service booklet and scanned images of the original owner wearing the watch with great pride. Estimate £150,000-250,000

In the same auction with many other fine entries is this Rolex Cosmograph 6265/6262 from 1970, it was worn daily from new and is what we describe as ‘much loved, but well-worn' condition.

Seriously nothing that a new glass and service cannot rectify! The dial remarkably is fantastic as shown in the image. Estimate £15,000-25,000
